CelBok eBook Platform

The first application of the PointTen Technologies patent-pending database compression technology is the CelBok platform for eBooks on Java-enabled (J2ME) mobile devices. Our goal is to provide an eBook system that provides a pleasant reading experience on most of the world's (estimated) one billion J2ME-comaptible Internet-connected mobile devices. The eBook is deployed over-the-air in a single file from a web server to the device. The entire book is resident on the device - after installation, network access is no longer required. There are numerous design challenges in this effort,  among them file size limitations, decompression speed on very slow devices, limited memory,  device diversity, and ease of discovery and acquisition. The PointTen compression technology is particularly well-suited for such an application.

This product is now in Beta Test. You are invited to visit the sample page pointten.com/wap using your wap-enabled browser. Selecting any of the available eBooks should result in a prompt to download the CelBok and install it on your device. System Requirements for version 00.88.00 are: 300 KB of heap (RAM) for the smallest  books and up to 425 KB for the largest, and sufficient storage for the download file. File sizes vary greatly, from about 100 KB to nearly 500 KB, depending on the size of the book.

Your feedback would be valuable to us. Please send any comments to feedback@pointten.com. Be sure to identify your device. The collection of eBook samples is expanded occasionally, so come back often. You can request an addition to the collection of samples (public domain only). Send your request here: request@pointten.com.

Some of the samples are also available at popular download sites:
